Featured Pattern: The Bramble Bag

A Bit About the Bramble

The Bramble is the Bag That Started it All! Before Red Rabbit Mercantile was even a glimmer in my eye, I wanted to make an everyday bag that would be nice and neutral so I would never get tired of it, stylish (of course!), and sturdy (since my belongings in general just tend to take a beating). You can see my "Proto Bramble" here on my personal blog. After making the first version, my mom and I worked on the pattern to make it better. We added pockets that were all fully lined and perfectly sized for necessities such as keys, lipstick, and a phone. We added an option for a webbing strap, and made the leather strap easier to make so that it would be accessible to everyone.  Finally, I think I can safely say that we nailed it! The Bramble is officially the perfect everyday bag.

Bramble Styles

One of the best things about the Bramble is its versatility. If you are truly going for an everyday bag, choose a neutral color for your outer fabric such as field tan, olive, or charcoal. The lining and pocket linings are a great place to play with color.

You can also play around with color on the exterior by using different fabrics for the pockets and bottom panel, like our pattern tester Debbie:

For a fancier Bramble, use darker colors and play around with texture. Here, I made a Bramble with a leather bottom panel and a silk-taffeta lining for a super luxe look:

This is my fancy Bramble, with a leather bottom panel and silk taffeta lining. If you use leather, choose a thin hide as the seams get very bulky.
